Thinking About Heaven…

This morning I’m dreaming about Heaven. I suppose it’s because I’ve had a tough week, and my back and leg pain has been worse than normal.

Hey, I know this life is cumbersome, exhausting, overwhelming and infuriating at times, but there is still much beauty to be found, if you look for it. Beyond that, however, is the fact that all Christians have Heaven to look forward to, and that’s an AMAZING promise!

Ya know, at work I have a saying on the last day of our work week: “No matter how much of a pain today is, and regardless of what we face today, it’s STILL Friday, and tomorrow is the weekend!” Well, I’d like to share something similar to all followers of Christ regarding our eternal home:

No matter how much pain you have to suffer, and regardless of what you face in this life, it will end someday. Heaven will be here before you know it!

Here is John’s description of Heaven; may it encourage your heart!

The city itself was pure, transparent gold like glass!  The twelve gates were made of pearls—each gate from a single pearl! And the main street was pure, transparent gold, like glass.

No temple could be seen in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are worshiped in it everywhere.  And the city has no need of sun or moon to light it, for the glory of God and of the Lamb illuminate it.  Its light will light the nations of the earth, and the rulers of the world will come and bring their glory to it.  Its gates never close; they stay open all day long—and there is no night!  And the glory and honor of all the nations shall be brought into it.  Nothing evil will be permitted in it—no one immoral or dishonest—but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

And he pointed out to me a river of pure Water of Life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and the Lamb, coursing down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew Trees of Life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month; the leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations.

There shall be nothing in the city that is evil; for the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him. And they shall see his face; and his name shall be written on their foreheads.  And there will be no night there—no need for lamps or sun—for the Lord God will be their light; and they shall reign forever and ever. (Revelation 21: 18, 21-27; 22:1-5)”

Yes, it’ all real and that’s what we have to look forward to! Don’t get so caught up in the agony and ecstasy of living that you forget what we’re working toward. The enemy of our soul wants you to feel smothered, drowned, in the evils of today, but they are only temporary. They shall all soon pass, and all the anguish won’t even be remembered.

Below I’ve posted a song from YouTube which has encouraged me through the years. While I normally don’t listen to music like this, I did grow up with it. Writing this blog reminded me of a song our former pastor, Stan Welch, and his wife, Sherry (who is our CURRENT pastor), used to sing: “Beulah Land.” Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a recording of the Welch’s singing this beautiful song, so we’ll have to settle for the Gaither’s. I pray your soul is uplifted this morning!
