On the day she turned 23 weeks old in the womb, we lost our granddaughter, Rosalee Mae. While I’m not ready to talk about it yet, I’m a poet at heart, and wrote this for her.
“Kiss the Face of God (for Rosalee)”
By Rob Weddle
No words can tell our feelings, babygirl
The Lord thought you were too good for this world
I recite all the lines, like “she is with Jesus”
Still rocked from knowing that you had to leave us
On Friday my child will bury his child
My spirit feels ugly, all twisted, defiled
Bombarded by “what if” ’cause all we can know
We were robbed of the joy of watching you grow
Grief is exhausting, yet we must trudge on
Knowing you’re gone, but not really “gone”
In one magic second you sprouted your wings
And entered the glory land where angels sing
You’ll never know hunger or anger or fear
Never know heartache or darkness, my dear
Basking in light while we carry our pain
Mornings of sunshine and evenings of rain
Your journey was swift, like hourglass sand
From the warmth of your mama to Heaven’s bright land
You traversed the stars where the living can’t trod
And kissed the beautiful face of God
Love and miss you, Rosalee
Mommy, Daddy, Poppy, Nana and all the rest will see you soon
This is beautifully written.

Thank you so much. This is a kind of grief I hoped to never experience first-hand, but unfortunately we can’t control these things.
